The unique identification authority of India (UIDAI) issues Aadhar which is a 12 digit unique identification number for all residents of India.
Residents obtain this number by providing their biometric and demographic details at various government authorized Aadhar enrollment centers.the event was attended by former prime minister of India,was launched in 2009 by Dr.Manmohan Singh.
In April 2010’nandan nilekani ,who was appointed as the chairman of UIDAI on 23june 2009, launched the logo and brand name “Aadhar” . Aadhar is a Hindi word meaning ‘base’.currently ,mr.pankaj Kumar is the CEO of UIDAI /aadhaar. On 29
September 2010,ranjana sonwane of nandurbar district of Maharashtra state became the first Indian to receive an Aadhar card.
Eligibility for Aadhar enrollment
The purpose of issuing Aadhar to citizens of India by UIDAI was to provide them with a document which can be used as a unique identify proof for numerous purpose.it is more than just an identification number.however,it is not only indians who can apply for Aadhar.
The eligibility criteria for Aadhar enrollment are as follows:
The applicant is an Indian citizen residing in India.
The applicant is a non-resident Indian residing in India.
Aadhaar applicant is a foreigner residing in India.
Aadhar card for resident Indias
Every Indian citizen can apply for Aadhar card. In addition,the government of India has now made it mandatory for taxpayers to link their pan to aadhaar for filing their annual income tax return (ITR).
Aadhar card for minors
Aadhar admission is also available for minors .unlike the voter ID card,to apply for Aadhar card for children,you will need to provide proof of parental identification and address along with the children’s birth certificate . newborns could also be admitted for aadhaar.

Aadhar for foreigners
An aadhaar card does not serve as proof of Indian citizenship.it contains various details such as the biometric data needed to identify a person.thus, foreigners residing in India are eligible for aadhaar even if they are citizens of another country, however,they have to stay in India for more than 182days in the last 12months to be eligible for Aadhar.

At the time of aadhaar enrollment,you have to submit two documents- proof of address (poa) and proof of identity (POl) . according to UIDAl ,any of the following documents will be accepted as proof of identity for applying for Aadharcard.

3. Photograph and Biometric Data Collection

4. Acknowledgement Slip

If the Aadhar verification process is successful, you initially receive an SMS or a notification through email
