What is hotstar?

Hotstar is an Indian digital and mobile entertainment platform.  It was launched by Star India on 6 February 2015.It is owned by Novi Digital Entertainment, a wholly owned subsidiary of Star India.  It offers Stream Media 31 Video – on – demand services.

Acquisition by Disney, integration with Disney+

Star, and in turn Hotstar, was acquired by The Walt Disney Company in 2019 as part of the acquisition of its American parent company 21st Century Fox.  In August 2019, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that plans were underway for Hotstar’s expansion into Southeast Asia. 

During a February 2020 earnings call, Iger announced that its recently launched international streaming brand Disney + and its original programming would be integrated into Hotstar as part of its re-launch on March 29, 2020. 

Hotstar began softening the extended service for some users in March.  started .  On 20 March 2020, in recognition of the COVID – 19 epidemic and the associated delay of the IPL season, Disney announced that it had postponed the launch on 3 April.
